ABOUT ME
Victoria Fortune is an alumna of Howard University residing in New York City. Her love for community and impact has led her to various opportunities in the philanthropic space. Victoria is deeply passionate about eliminating barriers that keep people from thriving. Her passion has led her to work with some of the most influential people in entertainment, the public and private sector, and philanthropy.
Despite Victoria’s personal success her world changed in 2018 when her father passed away. Having experienced her first funeral as early as age four, the passing of her father forced her to find new mechanisms to cope. Running marathons and therapy became tools to help cope with her new reality. The journey of healing the loss of her father and grandparents in the same year led Victoria to doing deep internal work that she often publicly shared on her social media. This vulnerability opened up the door for Victoria to be a confidant to people in her network and a safe space for them to open up about their grief.
Recognizing how taboo grief is to speak about in the Black community, the Sunshine & Rain podcast was born. Victoria aims to break the taboo, by inviting individuals in her network to talk about their stories of grief and how they manage to cope.
In 30-45 minute weekly or bi weekly episodes, host, Victoria Fortune finds positive and lighthearted ways to guide guests through a conversation on their story of confronting loss, grief, coping and healing. Inspired by Frankie Beverly and Maze’s song Joy and Pain, Victoria’s approach to each episode includes discussing songs that reminds the guest of the situation they’ve grieved.
Each episode, Fortune will invite friends across industries and health experts to open up about their personal stories of grief and healing. Through their vulnerability and story sharing, the hope is to affirm that grief is more common than we think, more than not, we are all experiencing similar emotions.
While there are plenty of podcasts surrounding grief, none that specifically focuses on activating the voices and real life grief stories of influential people.
